Shallow Ground – Quickie Review
Ultra low budget, ultra violent movie. Starts off with a bang, but slowly goes out with a whimper. The script ranges from clever to contrived, but there’s enough originality to hold one’s interest.

A Poe adaptation starring Lance Henriksen, Mark Margolis, Jeffrey Combs, Happy Gilmore’s grandmother and it’s directed by Stuart Gordon? Yes, please! Set in Spain, during the time of the inquisitions. Almost fully American cast with American accents and using modern day turn of phase and colloquialisms. Very funny at times, purposefully. Very funny at times, …
A tall alien being in human form is robbing a cemetery to turn the corpses into aggressive Jawas to be slaves on his home planet. My first time viewing and I wanted so bad to like it more because I remember liking the second part quite a bit. I also remember Part 2 being far …

“They’re organized, methodical. The first bite draws blood. The blood draws the pack.”
When it comes to the Saw franchise, it has always been about the traps. The better the traps, the better the movie. And this movie has some doozies. The traps make the script secondary so when there’s a decent story, that’s a bonus. This story works. However, like Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter, I …

My feelings towards this film have diminished over the years. I once regarded it as one of the upper echelon action-comedies. Not so much any more. I used to think that Tom Arnold was a revelation; now he’s just an annoying sidekick. The action sequences mostly hold up. The bridge scene is still a high-light. …
Standard alien home invasion movie. A couple of unique touches, but nothing to make the movie to leave an impression. J.K. Simmons has a meaty supporting role, and he’s dynamite as usual.
Over-the-top campy, horror-comedy about a man who is being terrorizes in his new house by an invading hobo starring cult favourites Bill Paxton and Michael Ironside as well as Kuato as title character. Super fun, never takes itself too seriously, a surprise treat. Another surprise, it was executive-produced by the one and only, Mel Brooks. …

This is a very unsettling and horrific documentary about an upper-class Jewish family that is torn apart after the father and youngest son are accused of some heinous crimes. The movie does an excellent job of unfolding the story and it reveals everything unbiasedly as you hear arguments from both sides. Riveting, yet upsetting film.
