Chillerama – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror (2018) – Day 8

chilleramaThe last night of a drive-in theatre is the setting and the wraparound story for this horror/comedy anthology. This film starts with a man getting his wang bitten off by the corpse of his ex-wife, and then we’re off… I’m a big fan of horror inspired anthologies such as Creepshow, Trick ‘r Treat and Body Bags but this one just didn’t do it for me.

It is continuously, unnecessarily and overtly sexual. And the violence in the last act is shockingly over the top. This film and the films within the film all try their hardest to be campy, but they just completely miss the correct tone. The only redeeming short was entitled The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein. This segment was written and directed by Adam Green (Hatchet series). If the rest of the movie had matched its energy and enthusiasm, then you would have had something.

The cast consists of many familiar genre veterans and about half of the drive-in segment either references and/or quotes better, more famous pictures. Watch the referenced movies instead or just Anne Frankenstein, the rest can be missed.

Side Note: There is no Dr. Frankenstein in the segment, he is replaced with a portrayal of Hitler and he names his monster, Meshuggeneh.
