Forbidden World – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror (2018) – Day 3

Forbidden-WorldHave you ever wondered what Alien would have looked like if it had been produced by Roger Corman? Wonder no more. I present you, Forbidden World.

After being awaken from a deep hyper-sleep to help fend off enemy ships, a federation marshal is summoned to a research space station where gene-splicing is practiced and the wearing of bras has been outlawed

An experiment goes wrong and creates a mutant that starts to run amok throughout the space station. The mutant cocoons frequently yet they refuse to kill it because they need to do more research. The creature itself looks like the result of combining the genes of a Xenomorph and Audrey II.

This movie is all over the place, but it’s kinda fun. Many unexplained things happen. However, if this wasn’t based on a true story, I’d question the science. A couple of my favourite bits include characters using a regular numbered keypad, but they have to inexplicably use a glowstick to push the buttons. Also a scene that involves the second female lead, whom has the emotional range of a toaster oven, lays out a towel in a steam bath that features an auspicious X right in the middle. It almost seems to be placed there to help the actress to find her mark.

It’s not a terrible movie. It is what it is. It’s a Corman film and you get what you’d expect, charming schlock.

Best Line: “What is the gooey stuff?”
