I Am Sam – Quickie Review

First off, I will admit, Sean Penn is excellent as the lead. However, I hate this movie. Overwrought with forced sentiment and musically cued pulling of heartstrings. I know this movie moves a lot of people to tears, but the only thing it induces out of me is groaning.

Pet Sematary II – Quickie Review

I only ever found the original film passable at best. This is a pretty weak follow-up. Edward Furlong is reliably awful. More gore than the first, but it’s also guilty of having more bore. There is only one reason to ever watch this film. The inspired and amusing performance of Clancy Brown.

Witchboard – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 31 / Film #1

A woman becomes obsessed with a Ouija board. That’s it. That’s the movie. And it’s boring as whale shit. I hate Ouija movies that can’t even pull off the movement of the planchette without it looking really obvious that the actors are pushing it.

Beast, The (1975) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 30 / Film #5

A wealthy young woman and her aunt travel to a French estate to meet with the family into which she plans to marry, completely unaware of a beast lurking on the property. Wikipedia describes this as an erotic fantasy horror. Well, there’s more whoring than there is horror. As for the beast? Anyone see Your …

976-EVIL – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 24 / Film #4

Wow. This movie was terrible. I can’t believe it was directed by Robert Englund and co-written by a future Oscar winner. One-dimensional characters, and the only character with more than that is horribly performed. This movie made me sad.

Outing, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 18 / Film #2

A group of teenagers are stalked by a vengeful genie while they are staying overnight in a museum. The 30-year-old teenagers drink, fool around and laugh wildly at each other’s jokes that aren’t even remotely funny. Creative and gruesome deaths go to waste in this terrible movie. FYI: If you’re in a pinch, you can …

Camel Spiders – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 11 / Film #3

I didn’t know exactly what I was getting to when I starting to watch this. That’s not true, I knew exactly what to expect and I got it in spades. The growth and reproduction rate of the spiders is a miracle of science. This is a marvel of CGI and blue screen effects. My brain …

Dinoshark – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 10 / Film #3

I’m not 100% sure, but I think this movie is based on actual events. If not, it seems pretty authentic and plausible. I mean, Roger Corman isn’t known for schlock. The actors in this movie put on a clinic and I’ll bet ILM shit their pants when they saw these effects. This movie made me sad.

Ankle Biters – Quickie Review

This movie gives indie horror flicks a bad name. I like the idea behind it. I like laughing at its ridiculousness, but mostly I love the name and what it infers. It tries so hard to be something more. The bizarre angles and the unnecessary slo-mo camerawork are mostly just distractions. I like that most …

Training Day – Quickie Review

I know I’ll probably ruffle a few feathers with this one, but I didn’t care much for this movie. I think it’s highly overrated and Denzel Washington’s performance is way too over the top. I don’t think he deserved the Oscar especially over Russell Crowe’s turn in A Beautiful Mind. I actually preferred Ethan Hawke …
