Catch Me If You Can – Quickie Review

An absolute delight from start to finish. I had a smile on my face the whole time. Hanks, DiCaprio and Spielberg are a magical combination. A terrific departure score for John Williams and Christopher Walken is heart-breakingly good.

Exorcist, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 20 / Film #3

No need for a synopsis, you all know the story. Still far and away the best of its genre. Expertly crafted, perfectly performed, indelible imagery. The crab-walk still creeps the shit out of me. Maybe not as scary as once perceived, but it’s still compelling as ever.

Zombi 2 – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 19 / Film #4

Who cares about the thin plot? This movie is all about the zombies. Over the top gore and some top notch makeup effects, exactly what you’d expect from a Fulci film. A handful of holy shit moments including a zombie fighting a shark! How has that not become a full length Sci-Fi channel movie yet?

No One Lives – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 19 / Film #1

A ruthless gang kidnaps a travelling couple and the gang soon finds out that they made a grave mistake. From the director Midnight Meat Train comes another gorefest that earns its R rating. Mean, brutal, gruesome and darkly comic. If this movie came out 40 years ago, it would now be deemed a grindhouse classic. This …

Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil – Quickie Review

A couple of happy-go-lucky rednecks become victims of negative profiling and what follows are the ultimate cases of misunderstanding. One of my favourite horror-comedies, just the right amount of gore and the perfect amount of laughs. The scene that involves a chainsaw and a hive is flawlessly executed. Purely delightful.

We Are Still Here – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 16 / Film #3

A grieving couple move to the countryside following the death of their son and soon find out that their new house and the town is full of secrets. For a movie with such a short running time, it certainly takes its sweet-ass time to get going, but it’s well worth the wait. Unique evil spirits, a well-layered …

Red Army – Quickie Review

This documentary is about the Soviet Red Army hockey team as mainly told by one of the team’s most storied captains, Slava Fetisov. This is a fascinating film that documents the parallels between the rise and fall of the Soviet empire in relation to it’s hockey program and the end of the cold war. Very …

Halloween (1978) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 15 / Film #6

I know this movie is an annual religion to some people, but this is only my second time seeing it and first in well over 20 years. This movie is just a clinic of building suspense and a prime example of less is more. It hits all the right notes for a slasher flick and …

Omen, The (1976) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 13 / Film #3

Exquisite supernatural thriller from director Richard Donner. This was my first time seeing it and even though I already knew the outcome, I was still riveted. Wonderful screenplay and believable performances. Love David Warner, always a commanding presence.

Creepshow – Quickie Review

One of the first horror I saw as a kid, and it’s still one of my favourites. It’s still as gloriously gory as ever, it still manages to give me the willies in some places and I don’t get creeped out that easily. The special effects have maintained their impact and I actually get and …
