EuroTrip – Quickie Review

A group of recent high school graduates head to Europe to adventure and frivolity. Surprisingly entertaining and very funny teen romp comedy. The plot is pretty thin, but it’s a continuous string of amusing scenarios and vignettes. Chock-a-block full of crude and inappropriate humour which is welcomed and delightful. Also, it features one of the …

Machete Kills – Quickie Review

Not as good as it’s predecessor, but still decent. More corn, than camp this time around. Too many “Machete Don’t…” jokes and even though he’s a dick in the real world, I can’t buy Mel Gibson as a villain. Over the top direction and inventive deaths are definitely this film’s best attributes. Vast supporting cast …

Ref, The – Quickie Review

Loud, abrasive, offensive and undeniably hysterical. By far, Denis Leary’s best movie as a leading man although it is definitely bolstered by an immaculate supporting cast. This film is endlessly quotable with some jaw-droppingly crude one-liners. It doesn’t lay on the holiday sentiment too thick which makes it watchable any time of the year. However, it …

Zoolander – Quickie Review

Before Will Ferrell was a leading man, he was a scene-stealer and this movie is a prime example. This film perfectly balances the line between silly and clever. It is still the best pairing of Stiller and Wilson.  Jam-packed with irreverent humour, spot-on sight gags and plethora of winning cameos including David Bowie, David Duchovny and …

Cane Toads: The Conquest – Quickie Review

A tongue-in-cheek documentary detailing the continuous westbound migration of cane toads across Australia and the devastation they leave in their wake. Extremely compelling, highly absorbing and very amusing. Even though these amphibians are tremendously destructive, they are amazing creatures. There are some crazy statistics in this film. Available on Netflix.

Looper – Quickie Review

A mind-bending, time-travel actioner. Clever, air-tight script that neatly ties up all of the loose ends that can develop with multiple timelines. Effortlessly entertaining and frequently amusing. Solid performances from the whole cast, one of Willis’ best roles in years. I love when a movie makes you think.

Fly, The (1986) – Quickie Review

I watched this movie so many times as a kid. Even at that early age is was mesmerized by the gore. So many high quality gruesome effects. Cronenberg was the perfect choice to for this updated version. This is still one of my favourite Goldblum flicks. Awesome stuff.

Billy Madison – Quickie Review

This is not a good movie by any standard, but it constantly makes me laugh shamelessly. The premise is absurd and most of the jokes are just plain stupid, but I can’t help myself. Sandler first major starring role and it remains one of my favourites and a total guilty pleasure.

Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse – Quickie Review

A trio of scouts are on a camp out when a zombies takeover their town and with most of the evacuated, it’s up to them to save who’s left. There are some pretty funny sequences in this film. It has very crude humour (dialog and makeup effects). I’d say it’s like Superbad with zombies, but …

Fish Called Wanda, A – Quickie Review

A wonderfully offensive, crude and funny heist flick. A completely Oscar-worthy tour-de-force performance by Kevin Kline. As funny now as it was back then. Any scene shared with Kline and Palin are priceless. Cleese’s script is endlessly entertaining. A comedy classic.
