Elf – Quickie Review

A well-deserved modern holiday classic. It tugs the right heartstrings without making you feel manipulated. Will Ferrell is so funny and so endearing. It’s a wonderfully balanced and inspired performance. And everyone else is perfectly cast even though some of the choices go against conventional thought. It’s hard not the watch this on TV every …

EuroTrip – Quickie Review

A group of recent high school graduates head to Europe to adventure and frivolity. Surprisingly entertaining and very funny teen romp comedy. The plot is pretty thin, but it’s a continuous string of amusing scenarios and vignettes. Chock-a-block full of crude and inappropriate humour which is welcomed and delightful. Also, it features one of the …

Exorcist III, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 28 / Film #3

George C. Scott gives a commanding performance in the second follow-up to the classic that completely ignores the second part. Way better than the sequel, but a far cry of the original. It’s more of a murder mystery with elements of horror. The banter scenes early on between Kinderman and Dyer are very funny. Also, …

Eyes Without A Face – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 28 / Film #2

A brilliant surgeon kidnaps young women in order to procure their faces in hopes to restore his daughter’s face that was destroyed in a car wreck. Not scary, but definitely creepy. The surgical scene is more graphic than the one in John Woo’s Face/Off even though it’s from 1960 and shot in black and white. …

Exorcist, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 20 / Film #3

No need for a synopsis, you all know the story. Still far and away the best of its genre. Expertly crafted, perfectly performed, indelible imagery. The crab-walk still creeps the shit out of me. Maybe not as scary as once perceived, but it’s still compelling as ever.

Evil Aliens – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 17 / Film #4

Holy shit this was gory! Holy shit this was glorious! A tabloid news team heads to a Welsh farm to report on an alien abduction and impregnation. Super fun, but super corny alien invasion movie. Full of subtle and not so subtle homages to other sci-fi and horror classics. This has some early Peter Jackson …

Equilibrium – Quickie Review

Christian Bales stars in this futuristic action thriller set in a time where all forms of emotion has been deemed illegal. Plain and simple, this movie rocks. The action sequences are sublime and I’d stack up the gun and sword play choreography against anything in recent memory. Perfectly executed. Bale is top notch as usual.
