I am a big Larry Cohen fan so there is always a little bias and I'll except things easier in his films than others. If you're not a fan of Cohen, get out! Or maybe you just don't realize you're fan because you unfamiliar with his cult-laden filmography (The It's Alive trilogy, The Stuff, Maniac Cop). He also had some moderate mainstream success with 2002's Phone Booth. A devout NY detective investigates a spree on mass murders wherein all of the suspects individually confess that "God Told Me … [Read more...]

Grosse Pointe Blank – Quickie Review
A hitman having a crisis of conscience heads home for his 10 year high reunion as it coincides with his next mission. Very entertaining, comedy actioner. Cusack is at his John Cusiatic best. While the movie plays out exactly as one could predict, I think most would be disappointed if it didn't. Darkly humourous and surprising violent. … [Read more...]
Get Shorty – Quickie Review
This is by far, my favourite Travolta film. And yes, I'm putting this above Pulp Fiction. A very faithful adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel. A sharp script by one of my favourite screenwriters, Scott Frank. An ensemble to die for, but Dennis Farina steals every scene he's in. So f'ing good, love it. … [Read more...]
Go – Quickie Review
This a story about the happenings of various people following a Christmas Eve drug deal. Each story is told separately with the stories briefly intersecting along way. Fast-paced and funny, drug induced romp. Great ensemble, but William Fichtner is a standout. … [Read more...]
Ghost Town – Quickie Reviews
After an anti-social dentist is revived from death during a routine surgery, he is cursed with the ability see and speak to ghosts. This a funny, often hilarious, and sometimes moving film. The chemistry between Gervais and Leoni seems very natural. The movie is full of Gervaisesque one-liners. Outside of Derek, I think this is Gervais' most layered performance. … [Read more...]
Grabbers – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 23 / Film #3
A small island of the coast of Ireland has been invaded by aliens, the only way to survive: to be obliteratingly drunk. Very fun and very funny horror-comedy definitely in the vein of Tremors. The creatures themselves come in various sizes. At its largest state, it is probably best described as a giant centi-pus. Plenty of blood and plenty of laughs, good fun. … [Read more...]
Galaxy Of Terror – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 15 / Film #5
A spacecraft sets out on a rescue mission and things don't go as planned. Eclectic ensemble which includes Mr. Hand, Joanie (but not Chachi), Sid Haig and a baby-faced, Robert Englund. Oozing with gore, crude creature and special effects, laboured performances, cheesy script and a scene with a maggot I won't soon forget. All of which add up to B-movie heaven. God bless you, Roger Corman. … [Read more...]
Ghostbusters – Quickie Review
Hands down, my all-time favourite comedy and my second favourite movie overall. Great blend of comedy and visual effects. However, some of the effects have not held up. While the cast is stellar, Bill Murray owns this movie as Peter Venkman. I'm still finding new humour with next viewing. How is this movie not a part of IMDb's Top 250 films? … [Read more...]
