Mr. Jones – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror (2018) – Day 6

A young couple decides to move to the woods because that’s what people do when they want to “find themselves”. After being in seclusion for a while, they discover that a famous reclusive Banksy-like artist lives near them. He is known for creating creepy scarecrow/talisman type sculptures which have always been shrouded with mythos and …

Jug Face – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror (2018) – Day 2

This film focuses on a backwoods community. Very early on, a hillbilly stereotype is revealed – so yeah, it’s that kind of movie. The community worships a ominous pit and offers it sacrifices in exchange for its healing powers. The pit speaks through a simpleton potter whom then fabricates a clay jug that would resemble …

Machete Kills – Quickie Review

Not as good as it’s predecessor, but still decent. More corn, than camp this time around. Too many “Machete Don’t…” jokes and even though he’s a dick in the real world, I can’t buy Mel Gibson as a villain. Over the top direction and inventive deaths are definitely this film’s best attributes. Vast supporting cast …

Now You See Me – Quickie Review

A group of touring illusionists are using their performances to pull off heists and then they reward their audiences with the loot. I’ve always been a sucker for a good heist movie and then when you throw in a magic twist, I’m hooked. Very entertaining, but implausible, comedic thriller. Likable cast and it keeps you guessing all …

V/H/S/2 – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 30 / Film #6

A couple of PIs break into a house to search for a missing student and they discover a large VHS collection. So what do they do? They watch ’em of course. This is the second installment to the popular horror anthology series. It’s loud; it’s chaotic; it’s dizzying; and my god, it is ever violent. …

Baby Blues – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 29 / Film #2

A young couple buys a new home and they find that the previous owners have left a strange doll behind. This pretty much plays like a Child’s Play/Annabelle hybrid, but not a good one. Many failed jump scares fill 90 wasted minutes. Go ahead and give it a miss.

Afflicted – Quickie Review

Highly original take on the vampire mythology and one of the best uses of the found footage genre. The special effects are stunning and seamless. An absolute delight from start to finish. Just suburb film-making.
