Den, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 8 / Film #2

A young woman receives a grant to study the habits web-chat users on a Chatroulette type site and along the way she witnesses a murder. The best thing I can say about this movie is that it’s not terrible. The gimmick of having almost the entire movie from the point of view of a webcam …

Wolf Man, The (1941) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 8 / Film #1

Incredibly fresh at the time when you consider that the writer came up with a lot of the werewolf folklore that we still follow today and the fact that a character actually has to ask, “What’s a werewolf?” Wonderfully complex and sympathetic performance by Lon Chaney. I liked that Randolph Duke was in the movie. …

Midnight Movie – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 7 / Film #4

A ’70s cult horror classic gets a midnight showing and soon, film and reality collide as footage of the theatre patrons getting killed start getting spliced into the movie. Light on budget, heavy on gore. A worthy entry into the already crowded slasher genre; it deserves a bigger audience.

Nightmare, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 7 / Film #3

An okay documentary about various people suffering from sleep paralysis and end up envisioning that they are being visited by shadowy figures. Interesting subject matter told through interviews and reenactments. The thought of the reality is much scarier than the film’s execution. Hoped for better.

Would You Rather – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 7 / Film #2

People hard on their luck are invited to a dinner party which turns out to be a deadly competition of Would You Rather. Clever little flick with a very eclectic cast which includes an Oscar nominee, a Barden Bella, a Trailer Park Boy, a TV super-villain, a porn star and cult horror legend, Jeffrey Combs. …

Street Trash – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 7 / Film #1

An opera of ooze is the best way to describe this movie. Tainted alcohol makes its way thru the homeless community which causes people whom consume it to melt and/or explode in a vast array of colours. This is not a good movie, but its absurdness and gooey special effects takes it to another level. …

Jeepers Creepers – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 6 / Film #3

A better than most slasher film featuring an unstoppable, supernatural-like mass murderer. Creative back story for the killer and for his reasons to kill. Multi-layered and believable performances from the likable leads. Features some graphic set pieces and deaths. Great creature design.

Quiet Ones, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 6 / Film #2

A supernatural thriller about a professor trying to use science to cure a patient of possession. Attempted jump scares and not thoroughly explained science hinders this movie from being anything special. It looks pretty, but that’s about it.

Patrick (1978) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 6 / Film #1

A comatose patient falls for his new nurse and when he’s overcome with jealously about her personal life, his psychokinetic powers take over. A part of the Ozploitation movement of the 1970s, this low-key psychological horror really packs a punch. A nice little gem if you can find it.

Frankenstein’s Army – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 5 / Film #6

This movie is crazy and it’s so over the top with its insanity that it goes way beyond camp. Russian soldiers are sent on a fake rescue mission which turns out to be a mission to capture Dr. Frankenstein who is creating a hybrid Nazi army. The creatures are half human, half BattleBot. Each one …
