A young couple gets lost in a maze of back roads while trying to get to a music festival. This movie expertly builds tension very slowly. Since most of the primary events take place in a car, it gets very claustrophobic. The last 30-45 minutes are extremely intense. A riveting firecracker of a film.
I’m not 100% sure, but I think this movie is based on actual events. If not, it seems pretty authentic and plausible. I mean, Roger Corman isn’t known for schlock. The actors in this movie put on a clinic and I’ll bet ILM shit their pants when they saw these effects. This movie made me sad.
There’s no way this could ever top the original, but I’d have to problem stacking it up against any horror remake or most recent horror films. Imagine a more extreme and far more graphic version of Deliverance expect replace Burt & Co. with a young couple and the rednecks with a gang of British youths. Disturbing violent at times. A realistic view of peer pressure and watching a bad situation escalating to the worst scenario possible.
