Get Shorty – Quickie Review

This is by far, my favourite Travolta film. And yes, I’m putting this above Pulp Fiction. A very faithful adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel. A sharp script by one of my favourite screenwriters, Scott Frank. An ensemble to die for, but Dennis Farina steals every scene he’s in. So f’ing good, love it.

Dave – Quickie Review

This Capraesque comedy about a full-time temp agency manager and part-time president lookalike performer who through happenstance ends up impersonating the president in an official capacity. Kevin Kline is utterly charming as the title character and Frank Langella is at his sleazy best. Wonderfully funny and very touching film. This may be Reitman’s best movie …

Big Lebowski, The – Quickie Review

This is the absolute epitome of a Coen Brothers movie. Quirky, well-rounded characters. Absurd scenarios. And a wickedly biting screenplay. Jeff Bridges is brilliant as The Dude. He just embodies the character and there’s nothing better than a Sam Elliot voice over. I love this movie.

Office Space – Quickie Review

This is easily one of the most notable comedies of all time. No matter how many times I watch this movie, I always smile with anticipation of a joke and then laugh when it arrives. Everyone’s comedic timing is perfect and the script is flawless.

Go – Quickie Review

This a story about the happenings of various people following a Christmas Eve drug deal. Each story is told separately with the stories briefly intersecting along way. Fast-paced and funny, drug induced romp. Great ensemble, but William Fichtner is a standout.

Ghost Town – Quickie Reviews

After an anti-social dentist is revived from death during a routine surgery, he is cursed with the ability see and speak to ghosts. This a funny, often hilarious, and sometimes moving film. The chemistry between Gervais and Leoni seems very natural. The movie is full of Gervaisesque one-liners. Outside of Derek, I think this is …

Sixteen Candles – Quickie Review

Easily in my Top 3 favourite John Hughes movies. Charming, sweet, funny and surprising crude. It’s one of those movies that I always that sucked into watching when I’m flipping channels and I come across it on TV. Very likable cast. It hasn’t lost a thing in 30 plus years. Holy shit, 30 years!

Hot Fuzz – Quickie Review

A hot shot, big city cop is sent to a sleepy countryside town because the higher-ups are tired of him showing up the other policemen. This is an ultra funny, ultra violent action thriller send-up. So many smart references to other films, great one-liners, sight gags and the tremendously talented cast from top to bottom. …
