State And Main – Quickie Review

I love movies about making movies. Throw that together with a Mamet script and you’ve got perfection. A magneficent satire chock-full of dry, dry humour and quick one-liners. This has a dream cast with the trio of William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman shining the brightest.

Ghostbusters – Quickie Review

Hands down, my all-time favourite comedy and my second favourite movie overall. Great blend of comedy and visual effects. However, some of the effects have not held up. While the cast is stellar, Bill Murray owns this movie as Peter Venkman. I’m still finding new humour with next viewing. How is this movie not a …

Diggstown – Quickie Review

Great boxing movie, even better con artist movie. James Woods is magnetic; Bruce Dern is at his sleazeball best; Oliver Platt is a riot. Plenty of twists and turns along the way with a killer ending.

Evolution – Quickie Review

From the director of Ghostbusters comes Alienbusters. Good premise, good director, good cast, wasted opportunity. Decent effects, but the laughs are few and far between.

Dude, Where’s My Car? – Quickie Review

About as big of a steaming pile of shit to ever appear on celluloid. Unfunny, misogynistic, unfunny, dumb, unfunny, a complete waste of time.

Galaxy Quest – Quickie Review

One of my all-time favourite comedies. It’s still fresh. I still laugh as much and as hard as I did the first time I saw it. Tremendous ensemble with Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell being the standouts.

Kentucky Fried Movie, The – Quickie Review

One of the earliest movies I ever watched on VHS. However, I did no make it through the whole thing during that first viewing. After the fake trailer played for “Catholic High School Girls In Trouble”, my parents told my sister and I to head to bed. I have since seen the movie a number …

Pitch Perfect – Quickie Review

My ultimate guilty pleasure movie. I make no apologies for the ridiculous amount of times I’ve seen this flick. I like the singing; I like the edgy humour; I like the girls. It’s a fun movie, so bite me.

Brain Donors – Quickie Review

A very funny movie in the tradition of the Marx Brothers. John Turturro is fantastic in the Groucho inspired role. Rapid fire jokes and sight gags elevate this move. Not all jokes hit, but there are far more hits than misses. The opening credit sequence is awesome, but an obvious ploy to pad the running …
