From A Whisper To A Scream – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 26 / Film #4

A weak anthology horror in the vein of the much superior Twilight Zone and Creepshow. The stories are tied together by a librarian telling a reporter about the town’s horrid past. The third tale boasts some pretty graphic violence, but the story itself doesn’t add up to much. Really, the only redeeming aspect of the …

Frankenstein (1931) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 23 / Film #1

You all know the story. Mad scientist and his assistant rummage through graveyards and medical schools for body parts to build a man and reanimate him. Simplistic story telling, jumps right in without exposition. With limited speech, Karloff creates a menacing yet sympathetic monster. Well-deserving of its horror classic status.

Fog, The (1980) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 21 / Film #1

I know I have nothing to apologize for, but I will start this review off with an apology because I know how much some people revere this movie. I’m sorry, but this film underwhelmed me. Sure it was moody, but it’s so dull. It doesn’t fall to Ghost Of Mars depths, but this is low …

Faculty, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 19 / Film #2

A self-aware Invasion Of The Body Snatchers ripoff and it’s not too bad. I don’t know if it’s the character or the haircut, but I’ve never a fan of Harnett since first seeing this movie; the rest of the cast is fine. Very cool faculty casting, I mean, Robert Patrick, Harry Knowles and Jon ‘Fucking’ …

Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives – Quickie Review

This was my introduction the Friday The 13th series. It was the first and it’s still one of my favourites. So many deaths, so much cheese. Jason is the ultimate bad-ass in this incarnation. Awesome soundtrack.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – Quickie Review

The film that single-handedly changed attendance taking forever. Modern classic which seems to play on a 24/7 loop on TV. While some of the jokes have lost their impact, the movie is as fun as ever. Highly addictive, once you start watching it, there is no stopping.

From Beyond – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 16 / Film #2

A scientist duo develops a machine that enhances the user’s third eye with drastic results. The violence is strong, the makeup effects are crazy. This is exactly what you’d expect from the Gordon/Yuzna collaboration. Ridiculous fun, Jeffrey Combs expertly hams in it.

Frailty – Quickie Review

This is Bill Paxton’s directorial debut, and it’s magnificent. A perfect example of horror without gore. It’s all implied. High tension throughout the movie. Terrific performances by all. The ending hits you with a wallop as the story comes to a head with one ingenious twist after another. One of my all-time favourite horror films.

F/X – Quickie Review

Above average ’80s action thriller about a special effects expert who is hired by the FBI to fake the death of a mob boss. Steady action with plenty of twists and laughs along the way. The main complaint would be the F/X expert’s partner is an appalling actress. I wanted to slap her repeatedly. Added …

Frankenstein’s Army – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 5 / Film #6

This movie is crazy and it’s so over the top with its insanity that it goes way beyond camp. Russian soldiers are sent on a fake rescue mission which turns out to be a mission to capture Dr. Frankenstein who is creating a hybrid Nazi army. The creatures are half human, half BattleBot. Each one …
