A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors – Quickie Review

Outside of the original, this is easily the best of the Elm Street movies. The makeup and special effects still hold up. Robert Englund gets some great material to work with and he delivers the scares and the laughs. The marionette death scene remains one of the best kills in the horror genre.

There’s Nothing Out There – Quickie Review

Common horror film scenario, several teens travel to a cabin on the lake for spring break only to have it spoiled by killer creature. Very meta film that predates Scream by 5 years. As every horror movie cliche unfolds, one for the characters calls out the stupidity of the situation and their motives. Great joke …

Creepshow 2 – Quickie Review

A mediocre follow-up to the 1982 horror classic. There’s a couple of decent moments, but all in all, it vastly pales in comparison to the original. The Raft segment is probably the only real highlight.

Without Warning – Quickie Review

Low budget horror/sci-fi film starring future Oscar winners Jack Palance and Martin Landau as well as the very young, ginger-haired David Caruso. Predates Predator by 7 years in the Aliens Hunting Humans For Sport On Earth genre. The effects range from cheesy to graphic; the dialogue ranges from cheesy to extreme cheese. Palance and Landau …

Fright Night (1985) – Quickie Review

This movie has ’80s camp written all over it and it’s awesome. Sharp script full of laughs and scares. The underrated Chris Sarandon appears to be having a blast and the late, great Roddy McDowall is a hoot as the veteran “vampire killer”. Great nostalgic ’80s fun.

Cabin In The Woods, The – Quickie Review

Throw every horror cliché, scenario, and villain into a blender add some dark humour, an abundance of gore, a character who is aware of the clichés and a clever (almost too clever) script that flips everything around and you get one of the best, most fun and most satisfying horror movies ever. That was a …

Wolf Creek – Quickie Review

Early entry in the torture porn genre. More build up and introductory story than most others of the same ilk. Inspired by true events. The film boasts solid gore and an out and out bad-ass villain.

You’re Next – Quickie Review

Do you like blood with your movies? Do you enjoy creative death scenes? Do you like to laugh at inappropriate times and things? Then this is the horror film for you because it was definitely for me. This flick is filled with over the top gore and extremely dark humour. Not for everyone, but fun …

House Of The Devil, The – Quickie Review

This is a horror movie, through and through. A nice throwback to the horror flicks of the ’70s. A real slow-burner. This movie builds to a tremendous payoff. Co-starring, the always marvelous and criminally under used, Tom Noonan. One of the best horrors in recent memory.

Scream – Quickie Review

Upon hearing the news of Mr. Craven, I rewatched this having not seen it for many years. I did it with a bit of trepidation caused by the multitude of meta movies that have come out since its initial release. I found in the past that too many copies can lessen the original. I’m happy …
