Howling, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror (2018) – Day 1

Classic ’80s werewolf flick, originally released only 4 months prior the werewolf benchmark film, An American Werewolf In London. The transformation scenes are similar between the two movies (future multi-Oscar winner Rick Baker started on this picture before hopping onto AAWIL,) but still different enough to stand on their own. The bladder effects work reminded …

Piranha Part Two: The Spawning – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 30 / Film #4

This is the strangest episode of River Monsters I have ever seen. Flying piranhas, really? If this movie wasn’t based on a true story, I’d be calling bullshit. This film is so bad, I almost walked out of the screening… in my own house.

Burning, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 27 / Film #1

Fantastic slasher flick from the early 80s. Solid story, really gruesome makeup effects by Tom Savini. It’s crazy how many people involved with this movie are still working today. I don’t know what’s funnier: that this was one of the Weinsteins first movies or seeing Jason Alexander with a full head of hair.

Das Boot – Quickie Review

The story of soldiers on a German U-boat during WWII. This movie is a masterpiece. Seemingly authentic, incredibly tense and very claustrophobic. Top notch performances all around and the film manages to do the impossible; it makes you feel sympathetic for these German soldiers whom are caught up in a war and a government’s ideology …

Don’t Go In The Woods – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 22 / Film #4

Various people go into the woods and they are killed at various times in various different ways by a feral woodsman. That’s it, that’s the movie. I can’t even give it points for campy fun. It’s just terrible top to bottom. It quite possibly could be the longest 82 minutes of my life.

Galaxy Of Terror – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 15 / Film #5

A spacecraft sets out on a rescue mission and things don’t go as planned. Eclectic ensemble which includes Mr. Hand, Joanie (but not Chachi), Sid Haig and a baby-faced, Robert Englund. Oozing with gore, crude creature and special effects, laboured performances, cheesy script and a scene with a maggot I won’t soon forget. All of …

Demon, The (1981) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 9 / Film #4

You know what? I can’t even be bothered. This movie is a pile of baked horseshit. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing.

My Bloody Valentine (1981) – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 5 / Film #3

Set in a small mining town where Valentine’s dances have been outlawed for 20 years and everyone plays a harmonica. One of the many holiday-themed slasher flicks that were churned out in the early ’80s. Decent kills are bogged down by annoying characters. Passable as a cult favourite, but far from a classic.

Funhouse, The – Quickie Review: 31 Nights Of Horror – Day 1 / Film #1

Schlocky, ’80s fun from legendary horror director, Tobe Hooper. Everything that should make this film terrible actually makes this movie ever so watchable and entertaining. Not as much gore as you’d expect from the director and from its release era. The scariest thing about the movie is the fact that the lead actor’s real name …
