Inherit The Wind – Quickie Review

Based on the landmark Scopes Monkey Trial. This is a riveting courtroom drama that pits religion versus evolution. Powerhouse performances from top to bottom with Gene Kelly being a standout in a rare non-musical appearance. I read the book and watched the film in high school as a part of curriculum and now I just …

Cabin In The Woods, The – Quickie Review

Throw every horror cliché, scenario, and villain into a blender add some dark humour, an abundance of gore, a character who is aware of the clichés and a clever (almost too clever) script that flips everything around and you get one of the best, most fun and most satisfying horror movies ever. That was a …

Harvey – Quickie Review

I can sum up this movie with one word: Delightful. James Stewart is effortlessly charming, as usual, in this spirited and very funny movie. This is film is pure magic.

Once – Quickie Review

I love this movie. I can’t stress that enough. A simple story about two people meet and then make music together, literally. It’s not your standard musical where the characters just break into song. It’s woven into the story organically and the results are hypnotic. It’s easily one of my favourite movies as well as …

True Romance – Quickie Review

One of my all time favourite films. Perfectly cast with a dream ensemble. Some of the best dialog ever put to celluloid. The violence is brutal and breathtaking. One phenomenal scene after another, pure movie magic. Love it.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – Quickie Review

Totally original, totally inventive movie. Edgar Wright is at the top of his game. Endlessly funny, wonderfully creative. I only wish it performed better at the box office so there could have been a sequel. Michael Cera is perfect; Kieran Culkin steals every scene he’s in.

Jodorowsky’s Dune – Quickie Review

I am a sucker for movies about movies especially documentaries and this is easily one of my favourites. Jodorowsky’s passion for this project then and even now, more than 40 years later, is extraordinary and infectious. The behind the scenes talent he assembled went on to do landmark films together and newer films are still …

Remember The Titans – Quickie Review

My all-time favourite football film. Terrific and inspiring performance by Washington with a strong supporting ensemble. I’ve seen this a countless number of times. A little of the impact is lost when you read up on the true story and see the differences from the story presented in the movie. Still a goose-bumping movie experience.

In Bruges – Quickie Review

One of the biggest surprises to come out of 2008, and it was one of my favourites. It’s profane, bloody, offensive and darkly humourous so I loved it. Colin Farrell delivers his best performance to date; Gleeson is solid; Fiennes is an absolute natural at comedy. Highly recommended.

Mad Max: Fury Road – Quickie Review

Easily, one of the best pure action movies I’ve seen in a long time and one of the best movies of 2015. The practical stunt work and choreography is stellar and their blend with the CGI is seamless. Highly enjoyable, multiple rewatches to come.
