Snakes On A Plane – Quickie Review

This movie fell victim to the over hype machine. The name got out there and the crowd went wild and then the movie came out. Not the box office smash everyone was expecting. It’s a somewhat enjoyable movie. It knows exactly what it is and it’s not trying to be something else. The average rating …

Devil’s Rejects, The – Quickie Review

Rob Zombie’s follow-up to House of 1000 Corpses is a hyper-violent crime romp with exceptional dark humour and very well written dialogue, almost lyrical in parts. Not for everyone, I remember seeing a few people walk out of the theatre when I saw it. Bill Moseley is terrific.

Dr. Giggles – Quickie Review

Camp is the order of the day in this surprisingly funny, heavily gory and underrated horror film. Larry Drake gives a wonderfully measured, over-the-top performance. Clever death scenes, a whole lot of fun.

Changeling, The – Quickie Review

Near perfect, proudly Canadian, haunted house movie that was partly filmed less than 5 minutes away from the house in which I grew up. The movie is 35 years old and I saw it for the first time less than 10 years ago. It is the last movie to legitimately scare me. There’s a real …

Creep (2014) – Quickie Review

A brilliant, quiet, little horror flick. Very understated, very restrained. Mark Duplass is pitch perfect as the “Creep”. Many of strong jump scares and clever twists. This is what every found footage movie should strive to be. Big isn’t always better. Catch it on Netflix.

Open House (1987) – Quickie Review

A crazed serial killer is on the loose and he’s slaughtering young, female real estate agents because he blames them for the housing prices being too high and he can’t afford to buy one. Sounds reasonable. This movie is garbage.

Canal, The – Quickie Review

Terrific, little British horror that features some solid gore and some genuine jump scares. Creepy tone throughout; the ending is jaw-dropping.

In The Mouth Of Madness – Quickie Review

Easily one of my favourite horror films. I once recommended this movie to an employee who was looking for a scary movie and the next day she got mad at me because she “didn’t want something that scary.” One of John Carpenter’s best.

Nightmare On Elm Street, A (1984) – Quickie Review

One of the slasher greats and to this day, still one of the only films to continually creep me out. Johnny Depp’s death scared to shit out of me when I was a kid. I’d never before seen that much blood at one time. Robert Englund is masterful.

Town That Dreaded Sundown, The (1976) – Quickie Review

An ok horror flick inspired by actual events. It was also among the first slasher films. I remember seeing this movie on the rental shelf when I was a kid. Thanks to Scream Factory, I was finally able to see it. Decent death scenes, but the movie fails to build any sort of suspense since …
